Error 1001

Error 1001 DNS Resolution Error Error

Category: Cloudflare Errors | Platforms: cloudflare

What This Error Means

Error 1001 indicates that Cloudflare could not resolve the origin web server's hostname. This is similar to Error 1016 but often implies a more fundamental issue with the DNS configuration or the validity of the hostname itself.

Common Causes

  • The origin server's domain name does not exist.
  • DNS records for the origin are invalid or refuse to resolve.
  • A CNAME record points to an external domain that is currently down or unresolvable.
  • Cloudflare internal DNS lookup failure.

How to Fix It (For Users)

  1. 1 Wait a few minutes and refresh.
  2. 2 Notify the site owner.

For Site Owners / Developers

  1. Check your DNS records in the Cloudflare dashboard.
  2. Ensure your origin server hostname is spelled correctly and exists.
  3. If using a CNAME, verify the target domain is active and resolvable.
  4. Disable 'Orange Cloud' (proxy) temporarily to debug if the origin is reachable directly.
